Wormerveer and Krommenie

In te centres you can find shops, facilities and hospitality business, the location is very attractive: it has the character of a village and a very visible culture history.

The centres Krommenie and Wormerveer are directly situated in the beautiful landscape of Zaanstad. Furthermore there are two train stations and business area's in the neighbourhood. There are 50.000 people living in Zaanstad Noord now. With "MAAK.Zaanstad" (make Zaanstad) we aim to strengthen the qualities of Krommenie and Wormerveer. Moreover we improve the connection between the centres, so that the quality of life for the inhabitants in the whole area will enhance.

Zaans Pijl

On the terrain of the former feed mill Brokking in Wormerveer a lively residential environment will be created. The factory site was known as 'Wessanen de Ster'. On this site a residential district with 150 dwellings 'at the Zaan' (stream) will be realised.

The name 'Zaans Pijl' was invented by Mieke Sjoerds. She took part in a contest of the owner to come up with a new name for the plot. The factory 'De Pijl' from 1930 was the most important component of the factory site.

About the area

Zaanstad

The city of Zaanstad is a part of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. The region is functioning as a magnet because of its diverse pallet of different living environments which varies from urban core to rural periphery. Therefore there is a significant pressure in the housing market. To meet the additional demand for housing the city of Zaanstad has to build a significant part of the 300.000 new houses which are needed between now and 2040 in the AMA. We welcome partners to realize these ambitions.

To accommodate this growth:
- New city center of Zaandam: Over a 100 acres, 700 million of investments in a new canal, offices, a cinema, shops and about 2,000 new houses.
- Amsterdam-ZaanIJ Waterfront: Miles and miles of waterfront connect the river Zaan with the river IJ to downtown Amsterdam. This is a huge urban development project with numerous historical industrial sites where we develop about 7,000 new housing units.
