800 student residences coming in Amsterdam's Sluisbuurt

Published on 06-02-2020
On 3 lots in the Amsterdam Sluisbuurt, the new neighborhood on the Zeeburgereiland, there will be a college and 750 to 800 youth and student residences. The municipality, Inholland and DUWO have agreed this with each other. Construction will start around the end of this year and will take more than 2 years.

Inholland University of Applied Sciences merges almost all courses from Amsterdam and Diemen into 1 building in the Sluisbuurt. Eventually 7,500 students study here. DUWO builds independent homes and group homes for young people and students, supplemented with spaces for commercial and social facilities.

The buildings together form a sustainable open city campus and they are connected to city heat. Solar panels and plants will be installed on the roofs and facades to combat heat and collect rainwater.

Started at the end of 2020
The 3 plots are close to the future water basin, in the heart of the neighborhood. The intention is for Inholland to start construction at the end of 2020. The delivery is expected in 2022. DUWO wants to start in 2021 and deliver in 2023.

A total of more than 5,500 homes and facilities will be built in the Sluisbuurt. The entire development will take 10 to 15 years.
