Plot for last residential tower Overhoeks issuedPublished on 23-07-2020
The last residential tower in Overhoeks in Amsterdam North is being developed by Xior Student housing NV. The 'BrinkToren' will house approximately 400 rental properties in various price ranges, of which more than 120 are social and 140 are medium-term rental properties. Ymere is the intended owner of the social rental housing and will purchase the homes turnkey. The municipality and Ymere worked closely together in the preparation of the tender to make this possible. The tower will also include a residential care facility, a neighborhood room and space for commercial facilities such as a bowling alley, neighborhood supermarket and catering. Construction is expected to start in 2022. Xior Student Housing NV is a Belgian real estate company specializing in student housing in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.
The BrinkToren, the last in line behind the former Shell tower, is a design by Mecanoo architects. The slender 90-meter-high residential tower will soon become the link between the high-rise in the new Overhoeks district and the low-rise in the Van der Pek neighborhood.
The BrinkToren will be a very sustainable project. The tower will become a net energy supplier. In addition, there is a lot of vegetation integrated into the facades. This is not only beautiful to see, but also provides cooling, water storage and it contributes to biodiversity. Nest boxes for bats and different types of birds, such as peregrine falcons and swallows, will be built. There will also be planting on the facade and roofs that is attractive to bees and butterflies.
There are no individual parking spaces for cars in the BrinkToren. However, there will be room for electric shared cars and there is a lot of space for residents to park their bicycles. In the building, movement is stimulated by clearly visible stairs and fitness equipment in the roof gardens.
