Substantially more houses above the million euros in the Netherlands: now also terraced houses

Published on 28-04-2020
Rising house prices will again result in more homes worth a million euros or more this year. This is reported by real estate data company Calcasa. The Netherlands now has more than 65,000 "millions of homes".
It is striking that this year also includes more corner and terraced houses, Calcasa notes in the study. These houses are mainly located in Amsterdam and surroundings. The most expensive residential areas can be found in Wassenaar.

The stereotypical image of the multi-million dollar home is broadly confirmed: half of the houses that cost more than a million euros consist of detached houses, with a large living area (280 square meters). It is also striking that 13 percent of terraced houses and 6 percent of corner houses are worth more than a million. These have an average living space of 231 square meters and an average year of construction of 1900 for terraced houses and 1930 for corner houses.

In the past six years, more than three times as many houses have been added that are worth more than a million euros. Like all house prices, location is a big factor. In East Groningen and Delfzijl and surroundings there are few to no million homes to be found. The density of millions of homes is greatest in the vicinity of Haarlem. There you will find chic Bloemendaal, among other things.
